Kitten Sanctuary – Buckets of cuteness!

Monday, May 4th, 2009

May05 Okay so the subject today, students, is cats.  No not the musical.  I do not understand why anyone would want to watch people prance around in cat costumes.  Although maybe watching yummy women in cat costumes… er… never mind.  According to Wikipedia, until recently cats were commonly believed to have been domesticated in ancient Egypt.  But a study in 2007 showed that cat lines of descent probably run through as few as five self-domesticating African Wildcats.  I mean, like wow.  Cats making them selves choose fancy feast over Meow Mix?  Buying themselves litter boxes and using them, and using words like “indeed” and “so forth”, and so forth.  Amazing.  What’s even more amazing is a cat’s ability to render a human harmless by simply sitting there looking cute.  You know such famous tough guys as Wolverine, Jack Bauer, and John Wayne have been disarmed by little fuzzy bundles of claws playing with balls of yarn or tripping out on catnip!  Okay so I made the catnip part up!  Who’s to know for sure.  I even have a theory of why there are so-called “Cat Ladies” in existence.

(xblig) Totem – Me Likem Totem

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Apr22According to  Merriam-Webster online a totem is “1) an object (as an animal or plant) serving as the emblem of a family or clan and often as a reminder of its ancestry, and is also a usually carved or painted representation of such an object and 2) one that serves as an emblem or revered symbol”.  Although the term is of Ojibwa (largest group of Native Americans north of Mexico) origin, totemistic beliefs are not limited to Native American Indians. Similar totemism-like beliefs have been historically present throughout much of the world, including Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Africa, Australia and the Arctic polar region.  A totem pole is a large sculpture carved out of a tree, and may include these totems as described above.  What does this have to do with our next XBLCG game?  It’s called Totem, of course!  According to the official description Totem is “Intense matching Totem destruction! Two game modes…survival and adventure complete with 28 levels and 4 elemental bosses.”  Let’s see if it stacks up to that definition.

SpellBlazer – Part card, part role-playing, all game! – flash

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Apr03a What if you took Magic: the Gathering and combined it with Dungeons and Dragons.  That would just be like so full of cool you’d be frozen when you played it.  Well SpellBlazer by Seismic Studios is not like that, luckily for all cold-blooded animals.  Okay so there is elements of an RPG, and then a card game in between.  If you are particularly astute you will find that Seismic actually developed Wagons HO! which I did the programming on.  So SpellBlazer was designed by the same guy.  Of course I had nothing to do with SpellBlazer as I was contract programmer for Wagons Ho.  Actually it’s been a fair bit since I played it so even though I know there are card based battles, I don’t really remember much about it.  Well let’s see what we got here.
