Awesome Tank and A Game of Tennis

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

The title says it all.  Well it doesn’t have the words “it all” in the title, but you know what I mean.  This time since the Banner Entrant entered two games I decided to put them together in this one review.  Awesome Tank is a Tank game reminiscent of Combat for the Atari 2600 (or Atari VCS if you prefer).  A Game Of Tennis is reminiscent of, well, a game of Tennis.   Actually it’s reminiscent of Pong that’s reminiscent of Tennis.  Well actually it’s reminiscent of Pong which is reminiscent of Tennis for Two which was reminiscent of Tennis.  Wow.  That’s a lot of reminiscing.  Enjoy that trip down memory lane?  Good.  In any case…  I’ll have to say thumbs up to Awesome Tank (and no it’s not the same people that made Awesome Soccer), and thumbs down to A Game of Tennis.  The rest of the review after the jump.

Meteors – First their came Asteroids, then there came METEORS!

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Another banner entrant another day another asteroids clone.  This one entitled Meteors from Platymuus Software.  Who hasn’t played some variant of Asteroids?  No really who hasn’t because when I find you I’m going to come to your house and punch your lights out!  Okay maybe turn your lights off.  Literally like flip the switch which will teach you to not play Asteroids. Wait that didn’t turn out right, we WANT you to play Asteroids at some point in your life.  THE Asteroids – only one of the defining games of the last century.  One in which an indie game company made a similar game called Debris and got caught up in a lawsuit by Hasbro who then owned Atari and was suing anything that moved, story is here.  Anywho, Meteors is another Roidlike (no not Roguelike, that’s another genre entirely) and we will see just what it is like after the the break.MeteorsSS01

Star Guard rocks your retro world!

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

Pew! Pew! Pew!  If you don’t know already that’s laser gun sounds as made by my mouth.  That’s my comment about Star Guard by Vacuum Flowers!  That’s it!  Kidding of course… this game is more fun than playing Star Wars with your 7-year-old friends and arguing who’s going to be Han Solo and who’s going to be Darth Vader!  “I get to be Darth Vader!”  “But you’re always Darth Vader!” “I have the inhaler!  Plus I know how to use the Dark Side of the force!”  “I get Han Solo, because I’m cooler than you!” “But I don’t want to be Luke Skywalker, how come you guys always get Darth Vader and Han Solo?!?” “Because you’re just a kid” “I’m six years old!” “But we’re 7 now grab your lightsaber Luke, I am your father!”  Well Star Guard is even better than that!

Note: While trying to be funny it may have sounded as sarcastic, but really Star Guard is retro-style-gaming-goodness and a side of fries!  Here’s the video to prove it:

I almost should just leave it at this like I did with Space Spy, only in this case it would be because of how awesome it is, instead of, well… I’ll just leave it there.  Anyways if you want to know more continue on…
