Bauble Play – Match-3 with an eye-patch!

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

(To the tune of Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer) Well you know Zombies, and Vampires, and Werewolves, and Ninjas, Skeletons, Robots, Samurai, and Vikings, but do you recall, the most famous scoundrels of all… PIRATES!  ARRRRGH!  Everyone is into pirates nowadays.  Seriously.  Pirates of the Caribbean, Lego Pirate sets, Puzzle Pirates (Okay I haven’t reviewed it, I haven’t even played it), even real pirates in the news.  Everyone is mad, simply MAD about pirates!  So it’s with great pleasure I present to you a match-3 type game with a piratey theme.  Okay it’s one of those ones where you just click and remove.  Technically this could be considered a preview because it’s in beta.  It’s done in XNA, so I assume eventually it will get to the XBOX.  Anyways, the game is ok.  Not great, nothing to really keep me wanting to play.  If you want to know more please continue to read.  How about a video of the gameplay:

Chris Unarmed – Quirky platform-loving goodness!

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

So our next review is for a game called Chris Unarmed by Chris Hughes.  He literally has no arms.  The premise is that the infamous “Mango” has released monsters on the world, and only Chris can stop them.  Firstly I have to say this game is on the “good” side of “OK”.  The platforming aspects are standard and the controls aren’t too hard.  Graphics are a bit quirky.  I think given more time and better art, this could have been a stand-out title.  Of course what can you expect from one person (well he did have a separate musician, but more on that later).  Here’s a video (probably the one I showed on the preview).

(XBLIG) RC-Airsim: A model of a model airplane?

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

I don’t think there are many flying (plane, jet, etc) games on XBox Live Indie Games, but then again, I guess I haven’t played all that many.  So when I heard about RC-Airsim I decided here was something I haven’t tried yet.  Actually that’s not what I thought, the creator was on twitter, so I heard about it through that, and decided to review it for my next XBLIG game.  However I hadn’t tried it yet, so I could have thought that.  But I didn’t.  But I could have.  I could go on forever like this.  Okay so I wasn’t expecting much with the title.  RC-Airsim meaning a simulation of radio controlled planes.  And I didn’t get all that much.  Now before I go on, I’m not trying to slam this, but it’s gotta be said.  This is not a game, it’s a simulation.  That was my first mistake, thinking of it like a game.  So let me give you my thoughts briefly before I get into the details of the review.  Unless you’re a radio-controlled plane enthusiast, you probably won’t care about this that much.  Like I’m not.  Watch the video to get an idea, and if that interests you, go ahead and read the rest of the review by clicking Read More below.
