Remember back in the day when games were still 2D, and you had to use your imagination to make that lonely pixel turn into a space ship, or a human, or a mouse in a maze? Okay now remember earlier than that? You know back in the back in the day. You had to type everything and REALLY use your imagination to make that word conjure up images of daring sword fights, dangerous pirate battles, or exciting princess rescues? Yeah, okay so go back even farther, you know when dinosaurs ruled the Earth. ER maybe that was too far. Let’s fast forward to the days of wine and text adventures. The days where one wrong move could kill you, and if you didn’t have a save game you had to play the whole blasted thing over. Or where you could ultimately get stuck and not ever be able to finish the game and not know where you went wrong. Well those days are over, so get over it!

Who wouldn’t like to see Harry Potter get mocked in a game? I know I would. And so I have with Warthogs by Crystal Shard. Crystal Shard is the team that brought you a Tale of Two Kingdoms which was widely praised by the AGS community. I decided to review some earlier games first.
(wme) Barrow Hill – Something spooky this way comes…
Monday, March 30th, 2009Okay. While looking through completed WME games I might enjoy, I got on to this Barrow Hill by Shadow Tor Studios. I almost wasn’t going to review this, because of the subject matter I determined would be acceptable. But looking at the first person perspective I sort of felt it wouldn’t like get gory or anything. Now the case may change with the full version, but the demo is just fine. I also wanted to choose something a little bit different than I normally play. Firstly the first person perspective adventure games (say like Myst) is not something I play usually. Secondly I really don’t care much for supposedly “scary”, horror, or thriller games. Mostly because as horror movies, these games get more realistic and thus a bit more gory. Luckily this is an adventure game, so the chances of this being truly that bad is small.
