The Cherokee Indian – It’s a game as well as a people!

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

July23 Edit: Reposting this because the developer of The Cherokee Indian (Jr Jellybeans) actually entered the drawing. I know nothing about American Indians.  And yes I call them American Indians because Columbus thought he was sailing to the West Indies, as opposed to Indian Americans those that actually come from India and become legal citizens of the US.  As far as Wikipedia says, they are a “Native American people originally from the Southeastern United States.  In the 19th century, the Cherokees were known as one of the "Five Civilized Tribes", because they had assimilated numerous cultural and technological practices of their European-American neighbors. According to the 2000 U.S. Census, they are the largest of the 563 federally recognized Native American tribes in the United States.  Of the three federally recognized Cherokee tribes, the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians have headquarters in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is located in Cherokee, North Carolina.”  Okay so basically I just filled some space with copy and paste from Wikipedia.  I did this because I don’t think any jokes concerning the Cherokee would be appropriate.  Plus I don’t know any jokes concerning them or any American Indians, and it would probably just be in bad taste if I did.  So now on with the game yeah!

I’m sorry but the game needs a little work, it’s ok, but it’s not great.  See more, next.

Star Guard rocks your retro world!

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

Pew! Pew! Pew!  If you don’t know already that’s laser gun sounds as made by my mouth.  That’s my comment about Star Guard by Vacuum Flowers!  That’s it!  Kidding of course… this game is more fun than playing Star Wars with your 7-year-old friends and arguing who’s going to be Han Solo and who’s going to be Darth Vader!  “I get to be Darth Vader!”  “But you’re always Darth Vader!” “I have the inhaler!  Plus I know how to use the Dark Side of the force!”  “I get Han Solo, because I’m cooler than you!” “But I don’t want to be Luke Skywalker, how come you guys always get Darth Vader and Han Solo?!?” “Because you’re just a kid” “I’m six years old!” “But we’re 7 now grab your lightsaber Luke, I am your father!”  Well Star Guard is even better than that!

Note: While trying to be funny it may have sounded as sarcastic, but really Star Guard is retro-style-gaming-goodness and a side of fries!  Here’s the video to prove it:

I almost should just leave it at this like I did with Space Spy, only in this case it would be because of how awesome it is, instead of, well… I’ll just leave it there.  Anyways if you want to know more continue on…

Chris Unarmed – Quirky platform-loving goodness!

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

So our next review is for a game called Chris Unarmed by Chris Hughes.  He literally has no arms.  The premise is that the infamous “Mango” has released monsters on the world, and only Chris can stop them.  Firstly I have to say this game is on the “good” side of “OK”.  The platforming aspects are standard and the controls aren’t too hard.  Graphics are a bit quirky.  I think given more time and better art, this could have been a stand-out title.  Of course what can you expect from one person (well he did have a separate musician, but more on that later).  Here’s a video (probably the one I showed on the preview).
