MiniReview4SS

I’ve linked to the update of tombed.  Apparently the author felt the Z and Spacebar could be used along with the shift and also removed blur.  Okay this is neat and pixelly.  You play Danger Jane as she tries to dig her way to treasure.  Only there’s an ADVANCING WALL OF DOOM, DUH duh DUHHHHH!  Okay well I’m beat after that.  Essentially you use the shift key to dig and arrow keys to move.  Not so tough, except the huge spikes just keep coming down and are relentless.  I couldn’t keep up, eventually I came to a part that was too hard and the wall overtook me.  Graphics are as I said neat and pixelly, and the sounds, sounded like they almost came from the pc speaker, except they were coming out of the regular speakers.  Nice little retro game.  Get it here: tombed.

“I’m done!” by rob

Monday, May 18th, 2009

MiniReview3SS Okay okay, so “I’m Done!” is not actually a title.  Why did I put it there?  Well that’s what the post of rob’s final entry for the Ludum Dare 48 hour compo #14 was titled and since he didn’t have an actual game title other than ld14, I decided “I’m done!” is the title to this game.  No.  You CAN’T change it now.  I don’t care if you’ve thought up a better title by now.  This is the way it is.  A quick note, rob’s entry is number 3 instead of 4, because he had a flash version, and I managed to play that.  Okay so basically you move with the arrow keys.  Jump with the ‘A’ button.  Fire with the ‘S’ button.  Pretty simple in execution, just three levels.  Basically you have these walls with very fine hats.  You have to find a way to defeat them.  I won’t tell you how, but you can shoot them.  Jump and shoot, shoot and jump.  Actually I find this entry fairly original.  Play this game it’s not too hard, and it’s pretty fun.  The graphics are fairly adequate  for a 2 day flash game.  I’m sorry to say the music is highly annoying.  So I just played it silently.  Anyhoo have fun.  Get it here: I’m Done!

(xblig) A Fading Melody – Or why I learned to stop worrying and love naked chicks.

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

May13 Thought that might get your attention hehe.  I’m only referring to A Fading Melody’s silhouetted heroine.  She’s not really naked as such.  It’s just an outline.  In any case, I wouldn’t deliberately review anything that really had naked chicks in it, I mean, this is a family blog after all.  Well I mean everyone in the family can read without feeling offended.  In any case this game is just not like that, so stop wishing!  Now I told you to stop that!  Go look at some mud flaps or something.  Even they are a little more “explicit” than this game is.  Okay okay so let’s get on to the game.  A Fading Melody is a platform game made for Xbox Live Community Games by Anchorcast, (Christian Seehausen).  Here’s the official description of the game – “Bring color and light back into the world of a coma patient as you run, leap, and roll your way through seven challenging levels. Fight off the fading darkness by stomping monsters, and watch as color returns to the black-and-white world of the game. A deep and powerful story unfolds as you progress through the levels. Discover how you got into the coma even as you fight your way out of it!”
