Space Falcon Commander – Fast ship? You’ve never heard of the Space Falcon? – Flash

Friday, March 27th, 2009

"Should I have?"
"It’s the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs. I’ve outrun Imperial starships. Not the local bulk cruisers mind you, I’m talking about the big Corellian ships now. She’s fast enough for you old man. What’s the cargo?"

SpaceFalconCommanderSS01Okay okay, so that was the Millennium Falcon.  But now we have the Space Falcon.  Space Falcon Commander that is.  Just what IS Space Falcon Commander, you ask?  It’s a game.  “I know it’s a game, you imbecile!” I hear you shout in your minds!  It’s a game for the iPhone.  Ahhh… Wait a second, Uhfgood, you don’t do iPhone games, do you?  You’re quite right, I don’t have an iPhone, or an iPod Touch, which by the way if anyone could oblige me with one, I’ll be happy to review iPhone games, er that is, if you can actually play a demo on those things.  Maybe they’re so low priced, they don’t do demos?  However since this is Flash Friday, I had the opportunity to play a flash version of it.

Star Crash – Sorry, no Caroline Munro – Flash

StarCrashSS01

My next Flash Friday entry is called Star Crash by Glowing Eye Games.  We’re not talking about some cheesy 70’s B-grade star wars rip-off either.   We’re talking about a flash game.  I really don’t know what this game has to do with stars other than the space backdrops, or maybe the flying, blue, glowy, thingy.  But it’s a simple game where you collect the blue glowy “stars” and orange glowing spirals.  You must simply avoid the red glowy thingies, or else it’s game over.  It’s simply a survival and get points game.  Nothing spectacular.  Also your mouse cursor is an eye, a glowing eye.  I mean how weird is that?  It’s not that bad to play though.  It does start to get frantic.  This is a good example of a beginners game.  If you want to get your feet wet making a game, do the simplest thing possible.

Avernum – Underworld revolution

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

“You have been banished to the underworld, never to see the light of day again.  You have been cast down into the dark, AvernumSS03volcanic pits of Avernum, filled with foul monsters, constant warfare, and thousands and thousands of your fellow prisoners. You have been sentenced to life imprisonment in the caverns, eventually to die there, forgotten and un-mourned.  But you need not accept your fate.  Will you be the first person to escape from Avernum?”

That is pretty much the description off the Spiderweb Software website, shortened so you wouldn’t feel as though I were trying to add filler.  I had just started up the demo for one of indie software’s classic games, the original Avernum, and after reading the opening passages, I couldn’t hope to remember what they said, other than, You have been banished to the underworld.  Okay that is not to say there’s too much text there at the beginning, it is a CRPG after all, but I wanted to get right into the game.  I did read it, but I read it rather quickly.
