Cat, Cat, WATERMELON!

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Nov09 Dude… Wait, what?   Today’s game review is a browser-based game called Cat, Cat, Watermelon!  It’s by Lexaloffle, don’t you know?  Yep… Good old Cat, Cat, Watermelon.  It’s about umm Cats and… oh… Watermelons.  Apparently there are more than just cats and watermelons to this game… there are also beach balls and umm… bowls.  and… more things… that you can stack.  Can you stack all the objects without it toppling over?  I’m sure there are a ton of objects in this physics-based game.  What?  You mean I didn’t tell you it was physics-based?  Well now you know, and knowing is half the battle (I think I used that line before, blame the 80’s GI Joe cartoon)

Since I didn’t have a video of the game and since you can actually play it on the web (no downloading or anything!) I’ve decided to give you an idea of the game with this video…  Trust me there really is a game review after the video.

Bloom – Flower to the Power of Cute!

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Oct28 Every once in a thousand years a game comes along that redefines the meaning of cute!  This is not really that game.  Although it is cute.  It involves flowers, but not necessarily hippies as far as I can tell.  It is a platformer, although it’s not scrolling.  It is actually another game from Spell of Play, but it’s completely opposite of T.W.T.P.B.  The one, the only….BLOOOOOOOOM!  The totally awesome game about picking flowers…or not.  Okay, okay, I’m not actually picking on Bloom and this is not going to be a negative review.  I just meant the or not part if you didn’t really like picking flowers, or if you aren’t a girl.  Most girls like picking flowers, so you may think it’s awesome if you’re a girl.  Bloom is your typical platform-jumper-collect-things-get-to-the-exit game.  However it’s quite interesting.  It’s fun (if somewhat frustrating, but more on that later), it’s nice looking, almost-retro-quality-but-not-quite.  The music is calming as well as the sounds.  It makes me think of the original Ray-man a bit (in the sound department).  Would I buy it (if I could) ?  You betcha.  Actually I’m quite liking the few spell of play games I’ve already played.  Maybe we’ll see more reviews of them in the future.  Anyways if you want to know more, please read after watching this video of the game in action.

You can read more here.  Please I need all the eyes I can get, read the whole thing!

PREVIEW: Lylian

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Today we get a look at a new upcoming pc title called Lylian which is a side-scrolling action game.  According to their blurb, “The player controls Lylian’s imagination which can change the world and its inhabitants. With unique attack abilities, humorous enemies and original bosses, the game is a mix of fast action set by a storyline with great pacing in stylised rendered environments – It brings something fresh to the genre. An Arcade style of play will also be available, with a cooperative mode of up to 4 players planned. “

It’s look plenty creepy, are those really long floppy arms in that video?  Oop, no, apparently those are sleeves of a straitjacket.  Would have been infinitely more creepier of those had been her arms.  In any case check out gameplay footage below:

Some early screenshots next.
